Background

My crew and I managed to capture a pivotal time during the life of Austin, a fascinating and charismatic individual. It is the first film made at the intersections of Deaf and transgender identities. The film sets out to show him as both a superhero and a regular guy. The esoteric sound design brings the audience into his visual world of sign language. Big thanks to Chris Funk of the Decemberists for helping us to accomplish this musically. Major thanks go to our talented Sundance award-winning editor Basil Shadid. He helped make this grassroots effort shine.
